Hot Melt Adhesives

“TOO MANY CHOICES! WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR US?”

You’ve been tasked with solving a problem: What type of adhesives does your company need to solve its packaging/construction/building/bonding/repair or assembly needs. There are eight different Hot Melt adhesives. “So, which one should I use for my company’s application?”

Precisely because there are so many choices of Hot Melt adhesive, you will be able to find the right one for your company’s application. Different markets require different adhesive for different applications. This page and its links will spell out our product line to make you a hero.

Hot Melt adhesives are 100% non-volatile thermoplastic materials that are typically solid at room temperature. When heated, they become molten and can be applied to most substrates. Once cooled, they form a strong, solid bond.

Markets that commonly utilize Hot Melt adhesives are:

Case and carton sealing
Envelope manufacturing

Food Packaging
Sterilized medical packaging
Labeling cans, bottles and other containers
Bookbinding
Bag making
Custom box manufacturing
Woodworking and cabinetry

Pharmaceutical Packaging
Product assembly
Automotive assembly

Hot Melt adhesives:

provide fast setting speeds, which means higher production speeds for you.
have the ability to bond to non-porous (water impervious) surfaces.
insensitive to water, which means the bond will hold when wet on impervious surfaces.
provide gap-sealing properties to accommodate irregular surfaces.
have an unlimited shelf life which means no spoilage.

The basic types of Hot Melt adhesives

PE- Polyethylene

This is an older standard of Hot Melt adhesive technology. It displays limited adhesion and temperature resistance but remains a viable product in many applications.

EVA-Ethylene Vinylacetate

This is the most common formulation in use today for packaging, bookbinding, and paper converting operations. It exhibits versatile adhesion characteristics as well as a broad range of temperature resistance.

PSA-Pressure Sensitive

This Hot Melt adhesive is unique in that it is formulated to remain tacky after cooling.

Rubber-A Hot Melt adhesive that displays many of the characteristics of EVA, but with greater adhesion and temperature resistance properties.

PA-Polyamide

This formulation provides excellent environmental heat resistance, high strength, flexibility, and a resistance to grease, oil, plasticizers and solvents. It will degrade if allowed to remain in a molten state for long periods, so small batches are recommended.

PUR-Polyurethane Hot Melt
PUR is applied in a similar manner to other Hot Melt adhesives, but forms an
incredibly strong bond and, once cured, displays exceptional heat and cold resistance.
PUR requires specialized equipment, and has a limited shelf life.

Polyester-Used in some structural applications and also fabric bonding for washables.
