250 degrees and a Significant Savings

Tom C., manager at a large manufacturing facility in the southeast, agreed to have our sales representative visit and present an alternative to the hot melt they had been using.  At first, the existing product they had been using ran very well.  Significantly, this operation’s tanks are not shut off overnight to aid in a rapid startup in the morning. The existing hot melt product would sit for approximately 15 hours.  The complaints were a foul aroma, darkening, gelling, and charring.

            Talking with Tom, our rep was surprised to find that it seemed to be accepted that the machines would require approximately 5 hours per week for maintenance, primarily due to char.  Tom’s primary resistance to the Cool-Lok product that we offered him was cost, but agreed to run a carton of Cool-Lok for comparison.  By doing an evaluation of output to pounds of adhesive used, they found that using Cool-Lok, 36% less product was used compared to the existing product. Though the Cool-Lok was priced 20% higher, an actual savings of 16% was realized.

Downtime for maintenance is a fraction of what it was before since char is eliminated. Less adhesive is squeezed out onto belts and less time is wasted with plugged nozzles.  Significantly, by running at 250 degrees, F, instead of 350, there is reduced risk of loss of time due to burns: and the Cool-Lok can sit overnight with no adverse effects.

Tom’s company has recognized a true savings in mileage, reduced downtime and safety.
