Anaerobic Adhesives

Anaerobic adhesives are formulated to work best on metals, and have gained favor in mechanical and automotive fields as “threadlockers”.  Anaerobic adhesives and cyanoacrylates are opposites in the surfaces they will adhere.

The substrates that anaerobic adhesives work so well on are the very ones that cyanoacrylates bond so poorly.  As its name implies an anaerobic adhesive work in the absence of oxygen, as when a bolt is threaded into a machined block or nut.  Curing can take as little as 20 minutes or as long as 24 hours, depending on the formulation and the application.  When exposed to the air, the curing process is retarded.
